Elaine Joy Swanson

Elaine Joy Swanson, age 77 of Albertville, passed away Saturday, September 9, 2017 at Lake Ridge Care Center Oasis in Buffalo.
She was born April 14, 1940 in Shevlin, MN, the daughter of Maurice Gordon and Ruth Evelyn (Christianson) Anderson.
Elaine graduated from Minnesota State University Moorhead with a degree in Teaching. She taught high school English in Twin Valley, Fergus Falls, Crookston and Ulen-Hitterdal. Later she substituted at STMA High School and Middle School, and Anoka-Hennepin School District.
She belonged to the Beebe Lake Association and Gopher State Buick Club. Elaine enjoyed reading, crocheting, working on the lawn and flowers, watching sports –especially the Twins, Vikings and Lynx, making lefse, and spending time with her family. Her passion was teaching, and she loved, loved, loved the kids she taught.
On July 12, 1986, Elaine Joy Trane and Richard LeRoy Swanson were united in marriage at the Historic Catholic Church of St. Michael.
She is preceded in death by her parents: Maurice and Ruth Anderson; brother-in-law: Gordon Nelson; and niece: Darci Nelson.
Elaine is survived by her husband: Dick Swanson of Albertville; children: Brad Trane of St. Cloud, Beth (Tracy) Melson of Trimont, MN, Barb (Gary) Schlimme of St. Michael; step-children: Chris (Shaun) Swanson of Albertville, Tim (Darla) Swanson of Otsego; grandchildren: Caitlyn Trane, Mitchell Trane, Stephan Melson, Kristian Melson, Seth Melson, Emelia Melson, Jacob Melson, Aline (Caleb) Wilking, Nick Trane, Taylor Schlimme, Bailey Schlimme, Craig Schlimme, Evan Swanson, Emmett Swanson, Mateo Swanson; siblings: Wayne (Lila) Anderson of West Fargo, Maureen Nelson of Gary, MN, Deb (Brian) Amenrud of Ham Lake; and many nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Visitation, Wednesday, September 13, 2017 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at The Peterson Chapel St. Michael-Albertville Funeral Home in St. Michael. Memorial service Thursday, September 14, 2017 at 11:00 AM, with visitation one hour prior, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Hanover with Pastor Leon Stier officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Lake Ridge Care Center in Buffalo, MN.
