Rockford youth wrestling camp planned

Rockford is working to revitalize the area wrestling program by bringing a youth wrestling camp to the area this fall.
Trent Shipley from the Rockford Area Athletic Association (RAAA) said coach Orlando Ponce will conduct a youth camp from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Mondays from Sept. 18 to March at the Middle School gym the first two months and then at the community center.
Ponce Trained Wrestling is for boys and girls in grades K through eight. As an Augsburg College wrestler, Ponce was a three-time NCAA DIII All-American and national finalist. He was a member of the 2010 undefeated NCAA DIII national championship team.
Coach Ponce has been active in the Minnesota wrestling community coaching at all levels. He works with beginner to college level wrestlers.
Rockford will have some new coaches for the winter youth season starting Nov. 28, practicing Tuesday and Thursday. One will be Rockford grad John Redepenning.
