Rogers squad car damaged during high-risk stop

A Rogers Police Officer’s squad was damaged after the officer initiated a high risk stop and PIT maneuver Monday, March 6.

A Maple Grove Police tried to stop vehicle for traffic violations. The vehicle did not stop. Maple Grove Police radioed and asked Rogers officers to look for the vehicle.

A Rogers Officer located the vehicle on westbound Interstate 94 at Main Street. Officer saw that the vehicle had expired registration, and the vehicle swerved over the fog line. Officer activated emergency lights and siren but the vehicle did not stop. The vehicle continued westbound on Interstate 94 and exited at Highway 241 in St. Michael.

The vehicle stopped at the top of the ramp. Officer exited vehicle to initiate high risk stop and vehicle turned west onto Hwy. 241. Officer attempted a Pursuit Intervention Technique (PIT). The suspect vehicle stopped as officer was attempting the PIT.

Officers transitioned into a high risk stop.

Bobby Smith, 29, was arrested and turned over to Maple Grove Police. Primary officer’s squad suffered steering loss and had to be towed to public works.
