CROSS Services in Rogers is one of well over 4,000 organizations requesting financial support on the annual Give to the Max Day Thursday, Nov. 17. According to Elizabeth Johnson, Executive Director of CROSS, there are many reasons to donate to CROSS, a family services non-profit.
With 95 percent of every $1.00 donated to CROSS, the organization is careful and efficient with every penny that is donated. Three percent of each dollar is used for raising more funds and building community awareness about CROSS, and two percent is used for administration.
“Without food, nothing else is possible,” said Johnson. Children who have enough to eat during the day concentrate better, act out less and have improved academic performance. More and more commonly, seniors eat less in order to have money to purchase medication, only to see the “take with food” label on the prescription bottle. Successful employment depends on having energy to work, to think and make good decisions. In order to thrive, to maintain one’s health, to live, people must eat adequate amounts of healthy food.
CROSS helps families stay stable. For example, one couple, Mike and Sarah, came for food and left with food support, housing assistance and a PCA for their disabled child. Jenna, a single mom with a brain injury and two children with ADHD, came with an eviction notice from her apartment and left with food, emotional support, and a deposit for a home with a yard for her children to run off excess energy. Katie came to CROSS for food when her savings ran out and left with a new and improved resume, multiple job leads and housing assistance so she wouldn’t lose her home in addition to her job crisis. Within a short time, she had a new job.
“Along with the compassionate staff and volunteers, CROSS practically addresses the core needs of families and individuals,” Johnson said. “CROSS is effective, caring and future-focused.”
The CROSS goal for the Give to the Max Day is $40,000 and there are still several ways for donors to make a contribution. On Give To The Max Day Talbot’s at The Shoppes at Arbor Lakes will donate 10 percent of its sales between 5 and 8 p.m. to CROSS Services. And continuing a generous tradition of giving, First Class Mortgage has announced a $10,000 matching grant for donations to CROSS’ Peace of Mind Housing Fund on November 17.
