After another successful season, the Maple Grove Law Enforcement Explorer Post 3775 is eager to begin a new year. The Explorers are a group of young men and women between the ages of 14 to 20 who have chosen to “explore” a career in the law enforcement profession.
Explorers are trained in all areas of modern policing including: search and arrest, domestic crisis intervention, bomb threat response, traffic accident investigation and hostage negotiation.
The post meets every Monday for training conducted by officers of the Maple Grove Police Department and other law enforcement agencies. Explorers are also encouraged to participate in a ride-along program with a police officer to see how their training is applied in the real world.
To begin the new season, the Maple Grove Explorer Post will be hosting its annual First Nighter meeting Monday, Sept. 15. At this meeting interested young men and women and their parents will learn exactly what the program is all about. There will be presentations by police officers and explorers to explain the program and how it can be beneficial to student’s futures.
Anyone from the ages of 14 to 20, who has completed eighth grade from Maple Grove or surrounding communities and who has an interest in law enforcement is encouraged to attend. The First Nighter meeting will be Sept. 15, at 7 p.m. at the North Metro Range, 11370 89th Ave. in Maple Grove.
