HSCO open house

MAY 16 — The Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office will host an open house event Friday, May 16, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the HSCO Enforcement Services Division, 9401 83rd Ave. N. in Brooklyn Park. The day’s events include: K9 demonstrations, squad car and emergency vehicles on display, drug prevention education, fingerprints, 911 safety information, dive team demos and water safety instruction. Perennial plant exchange

MAY 17 — The 13th Annual Perennial Plant Exchange invites gardeners to trade their perennials (in pots or plastic bags) at the free event Saturday, March 17, in the parking lot of the Maple Grove Community Center, 12951 Weaver Lake Road. Plants include: hostas, hydrangeas, coneflower, rudbeckia, phlox, forget-me-nots, sedum, day lilies and more. Come at 9:30 a.m. as plants trade quickly. Safety Fair/Bike Rodeo

MAY 17 — There will be a Safety Fair and Bike Rodeo Saturday, May 17, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Fairview Maple Grove Medical Center, 14500 99th Ave. N. in Maple Grove. This is a family-friendly event where kids can learn about the rules of road, get their bikes inspected for free and check out a fire truck and ambulance. This event is free, open to the public and is in partnership with Safe Kids Coalition.

Benefit sale

MAY 17, 18 & JUNE 7, 8 — The Angel’s Attic Benefit Sale will be Saturday, May 17 and Sunday, May 18, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. in Brooklyn Center at 4321 68th Ave., behind Luther Buick GMC. Items for sale include women’s clothes, jewelry, toys and gifts. There will be free admission. Proceeds from the sale will benefit the organization Angel Foundation. Another benefit sale will take place Saturday, June 7 and Sunday, June 8, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Angel Foundation is a registered 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization, providing financial assistance, education and support for adult cancer patients and their families. Breakfast event

MAY 18 — The Osseo-Maple Grove Relay for Life group is spreading the word about this summer’s Relay for Life event at a breakfast event Sunday, May 18, from 8 a.m. to noon at the Osseo-Maple Grove American Legion, 260 Fourth Ave. S.E. in Osseo. The menu includes: French toast, bacon and sausage, has browns, scrambled eggs, toast, coffee and orange juice. Cost is $9 for adults, $6 for kids 6 to 10 and kids 5 and under are free. MAY 20 — “The Planning Process for Development around the future Brooklyn Park Light Rail Stations” will be discussed at the Tuesday, May 20, Think Again Brooklyns forum at the Brooklyn Park City Council Chambers, 5200 85th Ave. N. Arrive for pizza and social time at 6 p.m. The program begins at 6:30 p.m. Urban Planner Bill Smith of Biko Associates will explain how citizens can get involved in the planning process for the areas surrounding the Bottineau Light Rail Stations. Janna King, an economic development strategist, will join to discuss strategies to help facilitate economic development along transit corridors. Pierce Canser, a planner with Metro Transit, will discuss station area design. Introducing the planning process will be Todd Larson, Senior Planner at the City of Brooklyn Park. Sons of Norway

MAY 20 — The Vestland Lodge Sons of Norway will meet 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 20, at Minnetonka Community Center, 14600 Minnetonka Blvd. There will be a koldtbord potluck, and speaker Odell Bjerkness will present “Impact of World War II on Norway 1940-1945.” The invasion of Norway and the five years of harsh occupation by the German Nazis were the most difficult times in the history of modern Norway. MAY 27 — Maple Grove Community Organization is in the final stages of planning the Maple Groves Days Festival scheduled for July 9-13. Join MGCO for its monthly meeting held the fourth Tuesday of each month, this month May 27. All meetings are held at the Maple Grove Community Center, 12951 Weaver Lake Road, at 7 p.m. There is no previous experience required to help plan the festival, just the desire to present Maple Grove residents with a terrific festival that people of all ages can enjoy. Outdoor concert

JUNE 6 — Live at the Hilde is a family-friendly outdoor concert featuring co-headliners the Gear Daddies & Gary Louris and Karen Grotberg of The Jayhawks. The concert takes place Friday, June 6. Doors open at 6 p.m. with music beginning at 7:30 p.m. at the Hilde Performance Center in Plymouth.
