Softball fans were treated to a gem when Maple Grove needed eight innings to defeat Osseo 2-1 at the ninth annual Osseo-Maple Grove Softball Extravaganza Friday, May 9.

Osseo junior pitcher Courtney Calkins and Crimson junior Sydney Smith locked up in a pitching dual. The Crimson took a 1-0 lead early and held it entering the top of the seventh. Osseo staged a rally and tied the game when Calkins doubled and came home on an RBI two-bagger by Ashley Sis. Those were the only two hits the Orioles got off Smith but they tied the game at 1-1 and sent it to extra inning.
