Softball: Anderson boosts Royals in 8-1 win over Monticello

Elli Anderson belted a home run and drove home four runs as the Rogers Royals thumped Monticello 8-1 at home Friday to stay unbeaten.

Katelyn Kemmetmueller struck out 11 batters, spacing out six hits and a walk, allowing one unearned run.

Anderson homered over the center field fence in the first inning. The sophomore third baseman hit one off the fence in the same spot her next at-bat, although she was held to a single on that one.

Madi Anderson was 2-for-3, Emily Hanford 1-for-3 (RBI), Kaitlyn Lloyd 2-for-2 (two RBI), and Maddie Thiebault 2-for-3 (RBI).

Bret Hulett took the loss for Monticello. She and Alisa VanderHarr had two hits each.

The Royals are 4-0 in the Mississippi 8 and 5-0 overall.

In earlier action, Katelyn Kemmetmueller  struck out 15 batters in leading unbeaten Rogers over Big Lake 4-0 April 22.

The sophomore righthander allowed only two hits and walked none. She also went 2-for-3 with a triple and drove home a run.

Emily Hanford was 2-for-3 and drove home two runs for Rogers.

Big Lake hurler Kalli Poffen took the loss, giving up just three hits and one walk, striking out four.
