Spring has sprung at Maple Grove Library

The Maple Grove Library, 8001 Main Street N., will offer several events that are free during the month of April.

The following are upcoming events at the Maple Grove Library:

“Teen Anime Club,” Saturday, April 5, from 2:30 to 4 p.m. and Saturday, April 26, from 2:30 to 4 p.m. — For teens. Watch anime, discuss manga and share artwork. Something different every time. Sponsored by Friends of the Maple Grove Library.

“Work of Art: Legal Considerations for Artists,” Tuesday, April 8, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. — Register online or call 612-543-6450. From protecting intellectual property to choosing a legal form for an artistic business, an understanding of underlying legal principles will help people make smarter choices. Learn about copyrights and contract basics regarding selling and licensing work, as well as getting into business. Find related books and more at the Library. This project is funded with money from Minnesota’s Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund. Presented in collaboration with Springboard for the Arts.

“Paws to Read With an Animal,” Thursday, April 10, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. — Register Online or call 612-543-6450. Kindergarten to second grade. Volunteers will help put young readers at ease so they can cuddle up with a certified therapy animal and practice reading aloud. Most libraries host dogs and you can call ahead to see if other animals will be visiting. Presented in collaboration with North Star Therapy Animals.

“Work of Art: Recordkeeping and Financial Management for Artists,” Tuesday, April 22, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. — Register online or call 612-543-6450. Does an actual income match a desired income? Learn clear, simple methods for setting up financial books, how budgets and cash flow statements can help people plan for profit and make accurate projections about what to expect. Find related books and more at the library. This project is funded with money from Minnesota’s Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund. Presented in collaboration with Springboard for the Arts.

“Work of Art: Simple Business Plans for Artists,” Tuesday, April 29, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. — Registration is required. Register online or call 612-543-6450. What does it take to grow an artistic business, aka a career? Start with preparing a simple business plan in arts-friendly language, which is an essential planning tool for any small business (even if you’re “just a painter!”). Find related books and more at the library. This project is funded with money from Minnesota’s Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund. Presented in collaboration with Springboard for the Arts.

“Social Security Online Assistance,” Wednesday, April 30. Times are from: 1 to 1:30 p.m., 1:30 to 2 p.m., 2 to 2:30 p.m., 2:30 to 3 p.m., 3 to 3:30 p.m., or 3:30 to 4 p.m. — Register Online or call 612-543-6450. Get help from a Social Security representative in managing an online Social Security account and leave with new Internet skills that will save time. This one-on-one help is for claimants and potential beneficiaries. Limit two per session.
