Breck defeated Delano-Rockford 5-2 in the Section 2A boys hockey tournament last week before getting upset by Orono in the title game.
Delano-Rockford fell behind 3-0 after the first period and 5-0 after two before Grant Prinsen and Jack Nelson netted third period goals.
Junior goalie Brett Norling made 27 saves, while Delano-Rockford put 23 shots on the Breck net. Norling returns for next season along with junior goalie Tyler Rizzardi. Both had a goals against average around 2 and a save percentage of around 9.00.
The leading point scorer this season was ninth-grader Ben Meyers with 18 goals and 17 assists for 35 points. Senior Justin Oja, who missed a stretch of games because of injury, had 14 goals and 16 assists for 30 points. Junior Brady Miller and senior Prinsen both had 19 points.
SWIMMERS AT STATE
Delano’s two swimmers at the state swimming and diving meet Saturday did not place. Of the seven events the Watertown-Mayer/Waconia/Delano co-op team sent to the state, just two advanced to the finals.
Junior diver Tristan Gens placed 13th in diving and junior Zachary Holman captured seventh in the 100-yard butterfly.
Delano ninth-grader Jake Weber was 20th in the prelims of the 50 free. Weber and Tiger junior Ben DeSutter were on the two relay teams at state. Both the 200 medley and 400 free relays finished 20th in the preliminaries.
