Delano students get hot meals regardless of ability to pay

DelanoHotLunchAssistant Principal Joe Vieau displays a sample of a hot lunch at Delano High School. Delano Public Schools serves hot lunches to students who want them, even those who do not have sufficient funds to pay for their meals, said Finance Director Mary Reeder. This is nothing new. The school district notifies parents when their student’s lunch money account is in the negative and most families pay by the end of the school year. Meanwhile, Gov. Mark Dayton has said he is committed to including $3.5 million in his supplemental budget proposal to ensure that no Minnesota student is denied access to a hot meal at lunchtime.
