It was a tough way to begin the 2013-14 basketball season. The Knights boys basketball team traveled to Eagan and Hopkins and dropped a pair of games.
Jackson Greenwaldt and Dallas Freeman, fresh off of a trip to the state semifinal game at the Metrodome, scored 11 points and nine points respectively to lead the Knights against Eagan. Sammy Guillou scored nine points as well.
The Knights kept the game relatively close, but found themselves trailing 35-23 at halftime. The Knights played better in the second half, but Eagan matched them on the way to a 69-53 victory. Michael Gorder of Eagan led all scorers with 17 points.
Four Eagan players finished in double figures.
Knights fall to Hopkins at Tip-Off Classic
STMA’s next game took it to the Tip-Off Classic in Hopkins. The Knights faced Hopkins, the hosting team.
Five Hopkins players scored in double figures as Hopkins beat STMA by nearly 50 points. The Knights struggled as Hopkins got out to a 48-17 halftime lead. In the second half, the Knights defense played better, but the damage had been done.
STMA scored just 19 points in the second half, falling by a final score of 77-36. The Knights were led in scoring by Jackson Greenwaldt, who was the only STMA player to score in double figures in the game.
The Knights opened up conference play against North Branch on Tuesday. They host Edina tonight at 7 p.m.
