Helping Hands Food Shelf hours
NOV. 7, 14, 21 — Delano Helping Hands Food Shelf will be open for standard service from 2 to 4 p.m. on Thursdays, Nov. 7, 14 and 21. The food shelf also will be open from 5 to 7 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 21. December food shelf hours will be from 1 to 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 5 and Dec. 12. Helping Hands will be closed on Nov. 28, Dec. 19 and Dec. 26. In order to continue to meet demands of monthly food shelf usage, Helping Hands will not provide special Thanksgiving and Christmas food baskets. Helping Hands encourages groups to hold food drives throughout the year and inform the food shelf of the effort. Cash donations allow the food shelf to purchase food from Second Harvest Food Bank at a much lower cost per pound than the average consumer can. Helping Hands is located in the basement of the Delano Community Education Building on Elm Avenue at Second Street in Delano. NOV. 9 -— Start your own homemade tradition by attending the fourth annual Ornament Making event at the Lion’s Building in Rockford’s Riverside Park on Saturday, Nov. 9, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. A variety of projects for a wide range of ages will be available. Roll up a delicate snowflake using thin strips of paper, glue, and a quilling tool. Personalize a card with a string of colorful fingerprint Christmas lights. Create a pierced tin ornament using a hammer, a nail and a can lid. Disguise a candy cane as a reindeer to hang on the tree. Loop together colorful strips for a decorative paper chain. All these choices and more will be waiting for you, just in time to finish for your seasonal decorating. This event is sponsored by the Rockford Area Historical Society, a local nonprofit supported by private donations. NOV. 9 — “Shop for a Cure” at Dorothy’s Home & Craft Show Expo on Saturday, Nov. 9, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Rockford Township Hall, 3091 Dague Ave. SE, Buffalo. This is a fundraiser for the Delano Relay of Life (supporting the American Cancer Society). There will be door prizes and kids activities at this free event, which is in its 10th year.

Home Free “Fun-Raiser”
NOV. 9 — The 11th annual Be an Angel for Home Free “Fun-Raiser” will benefit Home Free programs for victims of domestic violence. The event will take place from 6 to 9 p.m, Saturday, Nov. 9 wat Holy Name Church, 155 County Road 24, Medina. Home Free has served battered women and their children in the Plymouth area for over 36 years. The event will feature a spaghetti supper and desserts for a free-will offering, a speaker from Home Free and magician Matt Dunn. Silent and live auctions will offer gift baskets, holiday presents, garden ornaments and more. The benefit is free and open to the public. A personal care item or cleaning product for residents of Home Free will be welcomed at the door.
NOV. 10 — The public is invited to join in for a German Dinner Sunday, Nov. 10, from 4 to 7 p.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church and School in Corcoran. The menu includes: roast pork, mashed potatoes and gravy, German potato salad, red cabbage, saucer kraut, dinner roll, German chocolate cake or apple kuchen and a beverage. There will also be a craft and bake sale. Tickets can be purchased at the door and are $10 for adults and $5 for children 5 to 12 (children under 4 are free).
