This summer many area Venturing Crews — including one from Medina — sent members to the National Jamboree at the Boy Scouts of America’s newest high adventure camp, The Summit, in the mountains of West Virginia. Boys and girls from all over the world attended the 10-day event, which takes place every four years and attracts about 40,000 scouts.
Venture Crews are a part of Boy Scouts of America and are for boys and girls ages 13 to 21 who want to experience outdoor adventure and leadership. Four members from Venturing Crew 835 in Medina attended the Jamboree as well as members of crews from Eden Prairie, Bloomington and Anoka. This is the first year girls were invited to attend the event, which featured such activities as white-water rafting, a mile-long zip line, BMX biking, scuba diving and a concert by 3 Doors Down.
Annalise Phelps, a student at Orono Public Schools, was one of the girls who attended from the Medina Crew.
“It was an awesome experience and the best part was making new friends from around the country and the world,” she said.
Crew 835 in Medina offers many opportunities for youth who are interested in camping, canoeing, hiking, biking, leadership, service and more. For more information, contact Josie Phelps at firstname.lastname@example.org or 612-501-5241.
