In 2012, Champlin residents and business leaders formed the Champlin Police Crime Prevention Fund. The Fund is an independent non-profit organization that provides financial support for crime prevention programs conducted by the Champlin Police Department. The Crime Prevention Fund is a 501c3 charity and is not part of the Police Department or City government. As a result, donations to the Fund are tax deductible. In the past year the fund has provided financial assistance to the D.A.R.E. program, the Police Bike Patrol, Shop-with-a-Cop, rewards for crime solving “tips”, and a mobile police alarm system. These are all programs that can’t be funded with tax revenues, or which have fallen behind because of City budget constraints. This financial support can only be provided with donations to the Fund.
Champlin residents, businesses, and civic organizations have already donated to the Crime Prevention Fund and now donating has been made easier with the launch of a new web site at: www.champlincrimeprevention.org
A Champlin business, Irsfeld Creative Design, donated their time and talents to build and design this web site. The site describes the Fund and the many programs it supports. It also allows for secure and safe on-line donations.
The crime prevention programs that the Fund supports have been proven effective. Use of the mobile police alarm resulted in the arrest of two burglars last year. The 2013 summer Police Bike Patrol resulted in 250 citizen contacts and a reduction in night time nuisance crimes. The Shop-with-a-Cop program connected police officers with a dozen kids who had experienced traumatic events the previous year. Thanks to the Crime Prevention Fund, all of this was accomplished with no impact to the tax payer. Residents and supporters are encouraged to visit www.champlincrimeprevention.org to learn more and to consider a donation to this worthy and effective cause.
