The Lady Knights lost a pair of matchups last week to finish the regular season of volleyball. However, none of STMA’s losses this season came against Mississippi 8 opponents going into Tuesday night’s match at Buffalo. Therefore, the rivalry match featured the conference championship on the line.

Buffalo won the first set 26-24 after STMA rallied from 22-18, forcing Buffalo to win by two points per the rules. The Knights got off to a solid start in the set, going up 8-4, but Buffalo found its way after that.

The Bison took the early momentum and ran with it, getting off to an 11-3 start in the second set. Buffalo kept STMA at an arm’s length throughout the set, at one point leading 17-9. The Bison won the second set 25-16, establishing control over the match.

STMA rallied initially in the third set, getting off to a 15-7 start in a must-win situation. However, Buffalo rallied back, and the Bison took the final set by the identical score of the first set. With the sweep, the Buffalo Bison won the 2013 Mississippi 8 championship in volleyball.

With the loss, the Knights traveled to Blaine for a non-conference regular season finale match.

STMA battled during this match. The sets read as followed; 25-22 (Blaine), 25-23 (Blaine), 29-27 (STMA), and 25-18 (Blaine). The Knights entered Tuesday’s home section match with Irondale having lost four straight after a hot streak during the bulk of the season.
