Maple Grove Farmers Market to host pumpkin giveaway

Free pumpkins (while supplies last) will be available to children of all ages Thursday, Oct. 17, at the Maple Grove Farmers Market, with the donation of a fresh or shelf-stable produce item to CROSS Food Shelf.

The Market will be open from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Maple Grove Community Center, 12951 Weaver Lake Road, in Maple Grove.

“We are celebrating the final outdoor markets of our 10th season,” said Market Manager Kirsten Bansen Weigle. “One of our vendors has generously donated pumpkins to help us finish on a high note. In addition to free pumpkins, there will be a wide variety of local, seasonal produce and specialty products available this Thursday.”

Market-goers are invited to bring their pumpkins back Thursday, Oct. 24, by 5 pm to participate in the Pumpkin Decorating Contest. Prizes will be awarded for Best Carved Pumpkins and Best Painted Pumpkins in the following age categories: 1-13, 14-20, and 21+. Winners will receive $10 in tokens to be spent at any future Maple Grove Farmers Market, indoors or out. Pumpkins grown at home or purchased elsewhere may also be entered in the contest. Pumpkin judging will begin at 5:15 and results will be announced by 5:45.

Also Oct. 24, children are invited to come to the Market in costume for the market’s annual Trick-or Treat event. The Market will stay open an additional half-hour Oct. 24, closing at 6:30 pm.

The Maple Grove Farmers Market will be CLOSED Thursday, Oct. 31.

The Maple Grove Farmers Market resumes INDOORS at the Maple Grove Community Center Thursday, Nov. 7 from 3 to 6 p.m. More than 20 vendors will participate, with products ranging from fresh local produce to meats, eggs, breads, sweets, canned goods, flax, Lebanese items, cheese, apples and more. Indoor Market dates are Nov. 7 and 21 and Dec. 5 and 19.

Credit, debit and EBT cards are welcome at all markets, both indoors and out. Visit the Market Information booth to swipe your card and receive market tokens to spend.
