The Maple Grove girls’ swimming and diving has a history of success and Thursday night’s home opener was no exception. The Crimson girls out swam Elk River for another conference victory and now have 3 wins and 0 losses for the season.
The Crimson are led by a new head coach this year, Angie Zangl, who is thrilled with the success and dedication of these girls. “We have a very deep, very strong group of girls who put their whole heart and soul into this team,” Coach Zangl stated.
The Crimson victory was led off by a first place finish by the 200 medley relay team of Erin Buck, Emily Sjolander, Molly Hebzynski and Kristina Rudin.
Rudin also placed first in the 200 individual medley and second behind Buck in the 100 freestyle.
New to the team this year, junior Raeshawn Payton won the 50 freestyle and 100 backstroke. Other first place finishes for the Crimson, Hebzynski in the 100 Butterfly, Anne Rouleau in the 500 free and Lauren Biorn took first in the diving portion.
The Crimson have two more home conference meets coming up Thursday, Sept. 19; Thursday, Sept. 26; as well as their annual invitational Saturday, Sept. 28. The team will look to continue to have strong swims as they reach mid-season.
