Crimson spikers win 5 games in busy week

Maple Grove won its first conference match and captured a tournament in last week’s volleyball action.

The Crimson defeated Anoka 25-21, 25-15, 25-23 Tuesday, Sept. 3, at home in their first conference match.

Kayla Crane led with seven kills, .333 hitting percentage, 14 assists and 12 digs. Lauren Bright had five kills, .714 hitting percentage, four blocks, and one dig. Amber Demenge led the team with 21 digs,

Maple Grove won four matches to take first place at the Howard Lake – Waverly Tournament last weekend.

In pool play, the Crimson swept St.Cloud Christen 25-7, 25-5, beat Norwood Young America 25-18, 16-25, 15-1, downed Eden Valley – Watkins 25-17, 25-14. In the finals Maple Grove defeated Monticello 25-13, 25-21.

Notable Tournament Stats:

Crane led with 22 of 47 kills, .383 hitting percentage, three blocks, 28 assists, and 15 digs. Bright was 14 of 19 kills, .737 hitting percentage, led with 12 blocks, and one dig.

Brixius was 14 of 45 kills and Demenge topped the team with 68 digs for the tournament.

The Crimson host Coon Rapids this Thursday.
