With the return of some talented runners and a large turnout, the Maple Grove girls’ cross country team is looking forward to a successful season. The Crimson opened the season Aug. 23 with a race at Elm Creek Park.

Leading the team of 81 runners are senior captains Kendall Johnson, Hannah Hempe and Wendy Richards. Other top returning runners for the Crimson include eighth grader Tia Johnson, senior Olivia Rosenow, ninth grader Paige Cassibo, sophomore Genna Brakob, ninth grader Taylor Rosacker and sophomore Lauren Schiedler.

Head coach Jen Riewe also welcomes a number of new runners this season, including some potential top runners from the incoming seventh grade — Alexi Miller and Maddie Weigel.

The Crimson are looking to improve on their fifth-place finished in both the Conference and Section meet.

“This group has the potential to make it to state as a team,” said Riewe. “Our top competition for a state qualification will be Totino Grace and Mounds View.”
