Brooklyn Park’s Monroe Elementary School will start the year with a new principal.
Amy Oliver has replaced Brian Mann, who was the school’s interim principal. Mann is now principal at Champlin-Brooklyn Park Academy. Mann has been interim principal of Monroe since last fall, when Principal Rose Wippler announced her retirement. Oliver began her new role July 1.
Oliver last served as an assistant principal at Andover Elementary School. Earlier in her career, she was a classroom teacher at Riverview Elementary School in Brooklyn Park before it became an early childhood center. She also served as the curriculum integrator at University Avenue Elementary School in Blaine, where she helped develop a specialty program in aerospace, children’s engineering and science. She’s been with the Anoka-Hennepin district nine years.
“I am very excited,” Oliver said. “I had a chance to work with Monroe (staff) quite a bit when I was getting the program at University started. It’s such a diverse school community, and for me, that was really important.”
Oliver has a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, and her master’s degree in literacy and learning from Hamline University in St. Paul.
She completed her principal licensure at St. Mary’s University in Minneapolis. Oliver began her career teaching elementary school in the Osseo School District before coming to Anoka-Hennepin.
