Child struck and killed by vehicle in Corcoran


Corcoran Police: ‘Unfortunate accident’ 

A 2-year-old Corcoran boy has died after being struck by a car near his residence in Maple Hill Estates.

Police report that at approximately 6 p.m. Thursday, July 25, the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a child struck by a vehicle in the 7800 block of Maple Hills Rd., Corcoran.

Corcoran Police, Maple Grove Police, and the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene.

Henry Alexander Lucas Gonzalez was struck by a vehicle in the street of a mobile home park. Family members transported the child to Maple Grove Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Corcoran Lt. John Hamilton said when officers arrived at the scene, the family was already en route to Maple Grove Hospital.

“Once we got things kind of calmed down at the scene, investigators were assigned to Maple Hill and the hospital,” Hamilton said. “The State Patrol reconstruction team came to both sites.”

He said a bilingual State Patrol officer was called in to speak with the victim’s family, which is Hispanic.

Lt. Hamilton said all indications point to “an unfortunate accident.”

“For us here in Corcoran, it’s a sad day when a 2-year-old dies,” he said. “The community and police department send prayers to the family.”
