The Albertville City Council recognized the STMA Trapshooting Team.
The varsity team had 23 shooters this year and won 1st place at State for the second year in a row.
“This is a growing program,” coach Scott Berning told the council noting that in 2012 there were 57 teams in the state and this year there were 114.
The St. Michael-Albertville School Board approved the program two years ago and the STMA team has also grown leaps and bounds since it’s inception as well. This year the team had 48 shooters and grew from having three girls on the team last year to seven.
Emma Olson, of St. Michael, was the state female champion and Tommy Mavencamp was the 4th overall champion.
“We have a very dedicated team of coaches and all their hard work has paid off,” Berning said.
Mayor Jillian Hendrickson presented the team with a certificate and congratulated them on their success.
The trapshooting team practices weekly at the Crow River Sportsmen Club in St. Michael.
