Rotary Club sets up students for success, helps CROSS

The Rotary Club of Northwest Hennepin County has set a goal to raise $16,000, the approximate value of 800 backpacks, as part of a “Build a Backpack” fundraiser that targets students in need. During the month of July, all money raised will be donated to CROSS Food Shelf, a 501c3 non-profit organization, for their annual school supply drive. A single $20 donation is enough to buy a backpack filled with school supplies for a child in need in Northwest Hennepin County.

CROSSrotaryClubFall is not far away, and it is important that every student is well-equipped for the challenges of the school year ahead. The Rotary asks people to think of the numerous challenges already faced by children in need on a daily basis and implore them to help ensure that the children will have one less obstacle to overcome in the pursuit of a good education.

In addition to the voucher, school supplies can be dropped off at either CROSS Food Shelf or at Christ Community Moravian Church in Maple Grove. CROSS is located at 12915 Weinand Circle in Rogers and Christ Community Moravian Church is located at 13250 93rd Ave. N. in Maple Grove. Vouchers can be purchased through CROSS or by contacting rcnwhc@gmail.com.

CROSS Food Shelf provides food, seasonal children’s programs, clothing, Meals on Wheels, and limited financial assistance to families living in the communities of Corcoran, Dayton, Maple Grove, Osseo, Rogers and west Champlin.

CROSS has been operating for nearly four decades. Over 600 families each month benefit from services provided by CROSS, which is supported by volunteers and community donations from businesses, churches, schools and other organizations.
