Maple Grove Days offers something for everyone

The Maple Grove Community Organization has all kinds of events planned at the Maple Grove Days 2013 celebration, Wednesday through Sunday, July 10 through 14.

Maple Grove Days 2013 begins with a special extra evening of fun Wednesday, July 10, to celebrate the silver anniversary of the MGCO.

The annual Pierre Bottineau Parade will be Thursday, July 11. Other events will continue throughout the weekend, including live music, a disc jockey in the evenings and the Saturday fireworks display. The Maple Grove Ambassador Miss Maple Grove Coronation will be Friday, July 12.

There will also be rides and activities for the kids and plenty of good food for everyone. Events are free unless otherwise noted.

The following are events and activities planned for Maple Grove Days 2013:

 

WEDNESDAY EVENTS

The band “Rocket Club” performs at 7 p.m. at the Maple Grove Town Green.

There will also be a Beyond the Yellow Ribbon Proclamation event at 7:30 p.m. at the Town Green. The city will become nationally recognized as Yellow Ribbon Community.

 

THURSDAY EVENTS

The eighth annual Maple Grove Day’s Tennis Tournament, hosted by the Maple Grove Crimson Tennis Association, Inc. will be starting at 8 a.m. for singles and doubles. There are categories for boys and girls: 14 and younger and 18 and under and men’s open.

Come watch the Duplicate Bridge Tournament from noon to 4 p.m. at the community center and the Pickleball Un-officiated Tournament in the gymnasium from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Farmers Market will be open in the community center parking lot from 3 to 7 p.m.

The Pierre Bottineau Parade will run along 89th Avenue from Zachary Lane to Elm Creek Boulevard, from 6:10 to 9:30 p.m.

Maple Grove Days Sidewalk Sales will be at area businesses throughout Maple Grove.

 

FRIDAY EVENTS

The eighth annual Maple Grove Day’s Tennis Tournament, hosted by the Maple Grove Crimson Tennis Association, will be Friday, July 12, starting at 8 a.m. for doubles. There are categories for boys and girls: 14 and younger and 18 and under.

There will be a Bowling Extravaganza event at 9 a.m. at Sundance Golf Bowl, 15240 113th Ave. N. in Maple Grove. Comsic Bowling is from 7 to 10 p.m. Cost is $1 per game and $1 shoe rental.

Watch the Junior Golf Tournament at French Lake Golf Course on 17500 County Road 81 in Dayton at 9:30 a.m.

Maple Grove Days Sidewalk Sales will be at area businesses throughout Maple Grove.

Check out teens ages 12 to 15 or 16 to 18 competing against their age group in 3-on-3 basketball (starts at 10 a.m.) in the community center.

Capture the Flag at Weaver Lake Park from 3 to 5 p.m. This free event is for youth ages 11 to 17.

The Diaper Derby will be at 6:30 p.m. at the Town Green’s lawn area. Babies that crawl or walk and wear diapers can participate.

The Maple Grove Ambassador Coronation will be at 7 p.m. at Maple Grove Senior High School. Tickets of $10 are available at the door, $2 off with a Maple Grove Days button.

The Kids’ Parade, starting at 7:15 p.m. at the Town Green, lets all kids decorate their bike, tricycles, wagon or themselves and join the parade.

There will be an Open Skate — “Cool Ray Skate,” from 7:15 to 8:45 p.m. at the Ice Arena. Cost is $5.50 for non-residents and $4.50 for residents. Music will be from the Beach Boys.

Friday Evening Entertainment will be provided by the Splatter Sisters at 8 p.m. at the Town Green band shell. Bring a lawn chair.

The Friday Outdoor Movie will be “The Lorax” at dusk at the Town Green band shell.

Gala in the Grove is free and will take place from 9 p.m. to midnight at the Osseo-Maple Grove American Legion, 260 Fourth Ave. S.E. in Osseo. Join the newly crowned Maple Grove Ambassadors.

 

SATURDAY EVENTS 

The Rice Lake 3.7 Mile Classic Run begins at 8 a.m. at Freedom Field 8585 Rice Lake Road.

The eighth annual Maple Grove Day’s Tennis Tournament, hosted by the Maple Grove Crimson Tennis Association, will starting at 8 a.m. for the men’s open.

The Town Green Entertainment at the band shell includes: Zumba Workout from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m., Corepower Yoga from 10 to 10:45 a.m., World TaeKwonDo Academy from 10:50 to 11:10 a.m., Dancin’ On Broadway from 11:20 to 11:50 a.m., Boot Camp Workout from noon to 12:40 p.m., Single Circles Square Dance Club from 1 to 3 p.m. (upper lawn area), Bunce Backyard Productions Theatre from 1 to 1:30 p.m., Duct Tape Fashion Show from 1 to 2:20 p.m., Winner of the Teen Battle of Bands from 2:40 to 3 p.m., Sals Sisters from 3:20 to 4:05 p.m., Whosah from 4:25 to 5:25 p.m., Fan Jam from 5:45 to 6:30 p.m., Festival Community Orchestra from 7 to 8 p.m. and the Maple Grove Jazz Ensemble from 8:30 to 10 p.m.

Those taking part in the Geocaching event, it begins at 9 a.m.

The Maple Grove Days free shuttle bus will be available from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. from the Maple Grove Transit Station. There are four drop off locations: transit station, art fair, community center and big truck/car show.

A Kids Fun Run/Walk around North Arbor Lake will be at 9:30 a.m. Children ages 5 to 12 can participate.

Get an up-close look at the “Big Trucks,” 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the grassy area near LifeTime Fitness.

The Cornhole (bean bag) Tournament takes place at 10 a.m. at the southwest community center parking lot.

Children’s bingo will be held from 10 a.m. to noon at the Lions Pavilion.

Make and Take Wood Project from Home Depot will be from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at children’s tent.

The Business Expo runs 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the community center.

The sixth annual Showcase Silent Auction will be at the community center from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Jan’s Sweet Shoppe – Slice of Pie Sale will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the senior room.

A “Top 10” Classic Car Show will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Main Street in front of Town Green.

There will be a Maple Grove Library Book Sale from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the library.

Come to the Kid’s Room from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at community center room 124 for crafts, story time and more.

Children ages 3 to 10 years old can participate in a Hula Hoop contest, Big Wheel races, Fish Casting contest, Giraffe Bell Ringer, Children’s Miniature Golf and Safari Ring Toss (8 years and younger). All are from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the community center parking lot children’s tent.

The Maple Grove Art Fair will run from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. along Main Street.

Children of all ages can snap together a model car from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the children’s tent at the community center. Tickets are $1 each.

Get together in the Maple Maze from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the indoor playground at the community center. Don’t forget socks. Cost is $2 for kids 1 to 12. Adult supervision is required.

There will be family fun inflatables and games in the community center parking lot from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. There is a charge of $1 to $5 for the games. Remember to bring socks.

Stop by the Photo Booth from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. in the community center parking lot.

The Main Stage Entertainment includes: AlphaBits from 10:30 to 11:15 a.m., David Olson from 11:15 to 12:45 p.m., Jana Anderson from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m., Diamond Back from 4:15 to 6:15 p.m., and Pop Rocks from 7 to 10 p.m. All performances will be in the community center parking lot.

A Children’s Fishing Clinic will be from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. for children ages 5 to 12 at Weaver Lake Park, fishing pier, 8401 Dunkirk Lane.

There will be a boot camp workout from noon to 12:40 p.m. in the lawn area of the Town Green.

A variety of vendors will be offering food and beverages including in the community center parking lot and on Main Street from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.

The Maple Grove Lions Corn Feed is open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the community center parking lot.

Pony rides will be from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. in the community center parking lot. There is a $3 fee per pony ride. There will also be a free petting zoo in the parking lot from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

A Coin Hunt for 3- to 5-year-olds and 6- to 8-year olds will be at 1 p.m. at the community center volleyball courts.

Bingo will take place from 1 to 7 p.m. at the Lions Pavilion. Cost is .25 cents per game.

A Bicycle Stunt Show will be at the community center at 1, 3, 5, 7 and 8 p.m.

Sign up to stuff a bear at Noah’s Critters at 1:30 p.m., while supplies last, in the Children’s tent. Cost is $1 per ticket, five tickets.

Check out team’s creations with the Keep a Boat a Float event at 3 p.m. at the outdoor pool.

There will be a Teen Zone for teens ages 12 to 17 from 6 to 9 p.m. in the community center teen center and gymnasium.

Watch the Food Eating Contest will be at the main stage in the community center parking lot. Pizza contest is at 6:30 p.m.

See the sixth annual Bed Race on Main Street in front of the government center from 7 to 9 p.m.

The fireworks display will be launched from the peninsula on West Arbor Lake behind the community center at 10 p.m.

 

SUNDAY EVENTS

The eighth annual Maple Grove Day’s Tennis Tournament, hosted by the Maple Grove Crimson Tennis Association, will starting at 8 a.m. for the mixed doubles.

A one-day volleyball tournament will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the community center volleyball courts.

The Maple Grove Art Fair, on Main Street, will continue from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Tour five gardens located throughout Maple Grove from 1 to 5 p.m. Pick up maps at the community center, Fairs, and Lynde’s nurseries or at maplegrovedays.com.

There will be a Maple Grove Historical Preservation Society Museum Open House from 1 to 5 p.m. at the public works building, 9030 Forestview Lane.
