Teen run available during Maple Grove Days

As summer free time opens up to the teenagers and they seek fun and exciting things to do, their search can bring them to the long list of events offered during the week of Maple Grove Days, July 10-14.

Maple Grove Community Organization works with the Teen Outreach Program at the Maple Grove Community Center to offer events with the teen set in mind. The list of activities ranges from competitive to non-competitive events.

For those who enjoy the competition, Maple Grove Crimson will be hosting a Tennis Tournament on Thursday and Friday, at Maple Grove Senior High. Friday, July 13, has a number of opportunities to come have fun with friends. At the community center teens will find the basketball tournament ready to offer a challenge at the 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament. Or come join the fun of Capture the Flag game at Weaver Lake Park. For the individual, try those golfing skills at the Junior Golf Tournament held at French Lake Golf Course, pre-registration required. The athlete can also join in the Rice Lake Classic run held on Saturday.

Is someone creative, like to design, how about designing a boat that will support a 24-case of pop down the Lazy River without getting wet? Teams of 2-6 people can tackle this challenge for a first place $50 prize at the ever-popular Keep A Boat A Float contest. Another creative venue is the Duct Tape Contest and Fashion Show. Anyone between the ages of 11-17 can design and compete in new categories; basic grey, runway outfit and clothing and accessory, all made entirely of duct tape. Participants will then compete for prizes at the Town Green in the fashion show and display Saturday, July 13. Pre-registration required.

For some outrageous fun, join the Bed Races. Decorate a bed and race to the finish while helping to raise dollars for the 40 Winks Foundation. Get a team of five (team captain must be 18) and ride a decorated bed to the finish line for some great prizes.

Pre-registration required for all above events.

If anyone is interested in finding out about the hi-tech game geocaching, stop by the Weaver Lake Elementary School Nature Center. Learn how to use a GPS and find the hidden cache. Pre-registration required

Looking for some entertainment, well it comes in many kinds during Maple Grove Days events. Check out the fun at the Alley Jamz Bowling event at Sundance Golf & Bowl or skaters look for the “Cool Ray Skate” special offered in the Community Center Ice Arena on Friday night. How about music, check out the winners of the Battle of the Bands competition as they perform at the Town Green Saturday, July 13, followed the local Maple Grove teen band Sal Sisters and Whosah. Learn a few tricks while watching Rich Wieber’s Bicycle Stunt Show and if some teens like cars, the Car Show has some pretty nice rides to check out. Saturday evening the Teen Zone at Maple Grove Community Center gymnasium open up from 6 to 9 p.m. with a D.J., free throw and bean bag games.
