Sign up now for geocaching event, annual Maple Grove Days Tennis Tournament

What is Geocaching? It’s a high tech treasure hunt. What is a cache? It’s the hidden trueasure box. What equipment is needed for Geochaching? A GPS unit, comfortable walking shoes and dress for the weather conditions.

To learn about the basics of this hands on tech treasure hunt and join in the search for the caches come to Weaver Lake Nature Center, 15900 Weaver Lake Road (behind Weaver Lake Elementary School) Saturday, July 13. Pre-registration is required, sign up for one of three time sessions. Event is free but all children must be accompanied by an adult. GPS units provided by REI. Applications available at

If anyone enjoys playing tennis sign up now. Maple Grove Crimson Tennis Assocation is hosting the Eighth Annual Maple Grove Days Tennis Tournament on July 11, 12, 13 and 14. There will be two divisions in Juniors Singles and Doubles — 14 and under and 18 and under.

Players should play in a division based on their level of play and experience. Players may play up a division for more competition. Junior Singles will be played Thursday, July 11, and Junior Doubles will be Friday, July 12.

There will also be a Men’s Open Saturday, July 13, with two divisions — 4.5 and below rating and 3.5 and below rating.

There will be a Mixed Doubles Sunday, July 14.

Trophies will be awarded for first, second, third and consolation. The registration fee is $15. If anyone is a USTA member, they may register at the Tennis Link USTA website at Early registration is appreciated for planning purposes. Mail registration closes on July 7 and online registration closes July 4. Some of the divisions are limited to a 16 draw and will close when they are full. The tournament will be held at Maple Grove Senior High, Maple Grove Junior High, Teal Lake Park, Lakeview Knolls Park and Weaver Lake Park.
