Several new road construction projects in and around Maple Grove are set to begin or already have begun. Maple Grove staff and the Minnesota Department of Transportation wants to make motorists aware of the projects and possible traffic delays.
HWY. 169, FROM
77TH TO 101ST
Motorists may be experiencing delays on northbound Highway 169 between 77th Avenue in Brooklyn Park and 101st Street in Champlin as crews continue working on the new interchange at Highway 169/County Road 30.
As of May 31, the northbound lanes of Hwy. 169 were reduced to a single lane. The lane will re-open at 2 p.m. Monday, June 10.
The closure is necessary as crews pour concrete and repair the pavement.

HWY. 169 FROM
77TH TO HWY. 55
The rainy weather has delayed this weekend’s closure of southbound Hwy. 169 between Hwy. 55 in Golden Valley/Plymouth and 77th Avenue in Brooklyn Park/Maple Grove.
Weather permitting, Friday, June 14, southbound Hwy. 169 between Hwy. 55 and 77th Avenue will close for four consecutive weekends. The lane closures will begin at 9 p.m. each Friday and continue through 5 a.m. the following Monday.
Beginning Friday, July 19, northbound Hwy. 169 between Hwy. 55 and 77th Avenue will close for four consecutive weekends. The lane closures will begin at 9 p.m. each Friday and continue through 5 a.m. the following Monday.
Motorists will encounter various overnight weeknight ramp closures. All lanes and ramps will be open over the July 4th Holiday weekend.
During weekend closures, motorists should use Interstates 94, 394, and 494 and Highway 100 as alternative routes.
Throughout the past 10 years, extensive repairs to the 7.5 mile stretch of the highway have prolonged the life of the road. Current cracks in the road, declining pavement ride quality indexes and drainage issues necessitate pavement reconstruction. The $12.2 million project will improve the existing and future mobility of the road and provide a smoother road surface. The project also includes installing new guardrails, and improving bus lanes and pedestrian accessibility.

Another big project is in Maple Grove. The city, in cooperation with Hennepin County, received federal funds to improve Zachary Lane between Highway 610 and 101st Avenue N. The proposed improvements are focused on improving safety along this corridor by adding left and right turn lanes to Zachary Lane, a roundabout at 101st Avenue and a trail along a portion of the east side of Zachary Lane.
A layout of the proposed improvements is available on the city’s website (maplegrovemn.gov) on the Engineering Department’s page.
The project will require the closure of the Zachary Lane and 101st Ave intersection for several weeks. The closure is currently scheduled for the week of June 10, after school has let out for the summer. During this time traffic will be detoured to Hwy. 169 or Jefferson Highway and then back to Zachary Lane via Hwy. 610 or County Road 30. The project should be substantially complete by September with some minor clean up and site restoration expected to follow in the fall. The roadway will be reopened by Labor Day.
The city will provide updates on the project and associated activities in the area on a regular basis. People are also welcome to call at any time for updates, or to ask questions or provide comments on the project. Contact Marc Culver, the City’s Project Manager for this project, at 763-494-6350.
