The Rogers Royals lost a 14-inning game to Irondale 7-4, then saw their season end with a 12-4 loss to Champlin Park, in Section 5AAA on Thursday in Shoreview.
The Royals, who had won their first two section games, finished 11-9.
About the marathon loss, assistant coach Chris Donnay reflected: “Honestly, we played amazing softball for 13 innings; then the wheels came off in the 14th … Many people including the umps said how great a game it was and some even said it was the best softball game they have ever seen.”
The No. 6 seeded Royals had 18 hits but could not get the win they needed to upset No. 2 Irondale.
Both pitchers went all 14 innings. Irondale’s Maggie Schley gave up all those hits but she didn’t walk any. Rogers’ Kaitelyn Kemmetmueller gave up 11 hits and five walks. Schley had eight strikeouts, Kemmetmueller 14.
Olivia Olson had four hits (including a triple) and Madi Anderson, Kemmetmueller and Abbie Lien three each for Rogers. Elli Anderson and Madie Mokiloch had two each.
Notching RBI’s were Kemmetmueller (two), Olson and Kaitlynn Lloyd.

Champlin Park 12,
The Royals were drained for the second game, said Donnay.
“We didn’t have much left in the tank. After playing 14 innings it was tough to get up for this one.”
The Rebels got 13 hits off Emma Swanson (three innings), Kemmetmueller (one) and Lloyd (three).
Abby Neddemeyer was 2-for-4 with a solo homer for the winners. Gabby Paulsrud and Jordan Jenrich knocked in two runs each. Cassie Meyer pitched five innings and got the win.
Emily Hanford was 4-for-4 with two RBI for Rogers. Elli Anderson had a homer and two RBI. Olson 3-for-4.
