The Rogers golfers competed against “a lineup much tougher than the state tournament” at Albert Lea on Saturday and placed eighth of 18 teams.
“This meet was the best (field) we play all year,” added coach Dan Bursheim.
Lakeville South won with a sparkling 288 at Wedgewood Golf Course, followed by Wayzata 289 and Lakeville North 293. The Royals score was 311.
Lakeville North’s Bobby Thomas and Lakeville South’s Justin Doeden tied for the medal with 68′s. Wayzata’s Jack Holmgren was next with 69.
For Rogers, Morgan Rask came in at 75, Luke Bunkers 77, Kyle Korva 79, and Dylan Kline 80. Rask put most of his drives in the fairway. Bunkers had a good short game and made several long putts. Korva had tap-in pars on six straight holds as he couldn’t get the birdie putts to drop. Kline was solid until he slipped on a tough final hole.
This was supposed to be a two-day meet but Friday’s rounds at Green Lea were rained out. The grounds at Wedgewood were sloppy, too, but the greens were excellent, said Bursheim.
Rogers will close the regular season with conference meets at Riverwood National on Tuesday and Wild Marsh on Thursday.
