The Thursday double-header games at Pierz were amazing. Junior George Faue pitched a 1-hitter in the first game, as the Rockets took it to the Pioneers by a score of 5-0.
The only hit he gave up was a bunt single in the last inning- as he struck out 11 batters, and walked only one.
“It was a true gem of a game for George and a great start to the double-header,” said coach Randy Griffin about facing a strong team. Brendon Schumacher had two hits and Nick Tully drove in a pair of runs.
The second game saw the Rockets lose 4-2 in extra innings. Aaron Pietsch had two hits and drove in the first run. Brock Deering pitched four innings, giving up one earned run. Drew VanDehey came in for relief and pitched the last three innings.
The Rockets had chances to score in the last inning and in the extra frame. Rockford committed one error in the two games against a team that came in with a 6-2 record.
