The Maple Grove baseball team lost its season opener 3-1 to Anoka at the Metrodome last Thursday. In the middle of yet another spring snowstorm the Crimson played inside the cozy comfort of the Metrodome.
In the bottom of the first inning, Anoka sent eight batters to the plate and took advantage of an error, two walks and a two-run double to left to score two runs. Maple Grove answered back in the top of the second inning as Tyler Field reached on a single and eventually scored from third on a wild pitch.
The Tornados put up another run in the second on an RBI triple, ending all scoring in the game. Field, pitching in relief, held Anoka hitless over the final two innings, allowing no runs, walking one and striking out two.
Offensively, the Crimson collected six hits on singles by Field, Austin Bies, Corey Palyan, Alex Benson, Joe Franta, and Nate Erickson. Anoka collected six hits also but supplied added power with a triple and two doubles.
