Sea Devils place first in AA Division at Minnesota Age Group Swim Championships

Area Sea Devils Swimmers, with 39 individual athletes competing, placed first in the AA Division at the Minnesota Age Group Short Course Swim Championships March 15 to 18 in Rochester.

The team’s 13/14 Boys are also High Point Champions for their respective age and gender.

High Point and Team Champion is compiled by each individual and relay event’s placing being awarded a decreasing point value from first through 16th place. Combining Boys and Girls point totals together according to age group, 13/14 placed 4th overall and 11/12 placed 5th overall. Several 10 & Under swimmers also competed.

J. Shelstad, 50 Free – 2nd, 100 I.M. – 2nd, 100 Free – 2nd, 100 Fly – 2nd, 200 Free – 3rd, 200 Fly – 3rd, 200 I.M. – 3rd; Gallagher,1650 Freestyle -3rd; Muntifering,100 I.M. – 3rd. Emma Lezer, 12, 50 Breaststroke – 2nd; Zory Matlashewski, 12, 200 Breaststroke – 2nd, 100 Breaststroke – 2nd;

11/12 Girls 200 Medley Relay- 3rd (Beth Kelzer, E. Lezer, Jordan McGinty, Matlashewski) Michael Shelstad, 11, 50 Fly – 2nd, 100 Fly – 2nd, 200 Fly – 2nd, 200 Free – 3rd, 500 Free – 3rd;

Sea Devils Swimmers also sent 26 individual athletes to compete at the Minnesota Senior State Short Course Swimming Championships, held March 7-9 at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center.

A Top 3 finish was accomplished by Amber Eckstein, 14, in the 200 Breaststroke.

The Sea Devils practice at the St. Michael Middle School East, Big Lake High School, Vandenberg Middle School in Elk River, and Brooklyn Center Community Center.
