It could be a coincidence that soon after Delano boys basketball alumni shows up at a current Tiger game, there was a special connection.

Last month, Tiger alumni were invited to a game honored with a reunion of the 1993 Delano team that qualified for the state tournament.

Last week, Delano earned a return trip to state, 20 years later. At least the reunion was a reminder to current players that “it can happen.”

Former Delano boys basketball players gathered for a special reunion of the 1993 state tournament team celebrating its 20th anniversary. Former head coach Jerry Litfin was presented a team warmup jersey.

“It was truly a special night with many great stories and memories shared,” said former head coach Jerry Litfin “Our 93′ state tournament team lost only three games and by a total of four points all year.”

Delano lost on a buzzer shot in the state quarterfinal game on a shot from just over the half court line. The Tigers won the consolation semifinal by a large margin and lost on another buzzer beater to DeLaSalle in the consolation championship game.

Tiger alumni were invited with about 75 attending. Players from the 1993 on hand included Paul Ludwig, Ryan Tool, Damon Clare and Andy Kraemer.

A reception took place in the cafeteria after the game, followed by an evening of chicken wings and fun at the reserved back room at Dave’s Town Club.

Litfin was presented with a framed team warmup jersey. Announcing the event was alumni player Den Gardner, who was a teammate of Litfin in the class of 1969.
