Rockford Lion’s Golf in the Park
FEB. 23 — The Rockford Lions will host its second annual Blue Ball Open Saturday, Feb. 23, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Riverside Park. Bring your favorite club, tennis ball provided. There will be skill contests, door prizes and plenty of fun.

PIE Family Fun Carnival
FEB. 23 — On Saturday, Feb. 23, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Rockford Elementary Arts Magnet School, the community is invited to celebrate the 20th annual Pie Family Fun Carnival.
Expect a variety of game booths and fun activities for all ages. The Rockford Area Schools mascot, Rockee, greet everyone.
A Teacher Dunk Tank promises to be a debut hit.
Money raised goes back to the school, helping fund the needs of students through grade 8 that district funds do not.
FEB. 23 — Vinland National Center will hold its fourth annual “Winter Walkabout” 3K snowshoe walk beginning at 1 p.m. at the center, located at 3675 Ihduhapi Road in Independence. Register as an individual or a team at winterwalkabout.org. Early bird rates end Feb. 11. Proceeds will benefit Vinland Center, a non-profit organization dedicated to full lives for people with disabilities.
Read to a Dog
FEB. 23 — The Rockford Public Library is offering a “Read To a Dog” program for children Saturday, Feb. 23, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Dogs are great listeners, and even children who are not confident readers enjoy reading to them. Rockford’s library reading dog is Kirk, a 5-year-old farm collie who has achieved his AKC Canine Good Citizen Certificate. He would love to have school age readers stop by and read to him. Children may bring a favorite book or pick one out at the library. The library will also have “Read To a Dog” programs on the last Saturdays in March and April.

Grief Support Group
FEB. 25 — The Grief Support Group: Rebuilding Hope, sponsored by Ridgeview Medical Center will meet Monday, Feb. 25, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Ridgeview Medical Center. This support group is for those experiencing grief or anticipating a loss of someone they care about. Advance Care Planning…It’s About the Conversation
FEB. 28 & MARCH 2 — It is important for people to have accurate information in order to make informed decisions about treatments they would or would not want for end-of-life care. Then it is important to talk about one’s wishes with family members who may need to make health care decisions, and to record your wishes in a document. Please join us for an information session that will explain why advance care planning is important and the steps involved. Annie is a certified Reading Education Assistance Dog. Sign ups are on the same day for 15 minutes of one on one reading time. The library will provide books of all reading levels.
