Rockford Lion’s Golf in the Park
FEB. 23 — The Rockford Lions will host its second annual Blue Ball Open Saturday, Feb. 23, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Riverside Park. Bring your favorite club, tennis ball provided. There will be skill contests, door prizes and plenty of fun.

Proceeds will help fund a Veteran’s Memorial in Riverside Park.
PIE Family Fun Carnival
FEB. 23 — On Saturday, Feb. 23, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Rockford Elementary Arts Magnet School, the community is invited to celebrate the 20th annual Pie Family Fun Carnival.
Expect a variety of game booths and fun activities for all ages. The Rockford Area Schools mascot, Rockee, greet everyone.
A Teacher Dunk Tank promises to be a debut hit.
Money raised goes back to the school, helping fund the needs of students through grade 8 that district funds do not.
FEB. 23 — Vinland National Center will hold its fourth annual “Winter Walkabout” 3K snowshoe walk beginning at 1 p.m. at the center, located at 3675 Ihduhapi Road in Independence. Register as an individual or a team at winterwalkabout.org. Early bird rates end Feb. 11. Proceeds will benefit Vinland Center, a non-profit organization dedicated to full lives for people with disabilities.
Read to a Dog
FEB. 23 — The Rockford Public Library is offering a “Read To a Dog” program for children Saturday, Feb. 23, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Dogs are great listeners, and even children who are not confident readers enjoy reading to them. Rockford’s library reading dog is Kirk, a 5-year-old farm collie who has achieved his AKC Canine Good Citizen Certificate. He would love to have school age readers stop by and read to him. Children may bring a favorite book or pick one out at the library. The library will also have “Read To a Dog” programs on the last Saturdays in March and April.

FEB. 25 — The Delano School Board will meet Monday, Feb. 25, at 7 p.m. in the City Council chambers at Delano City Hall, located on Bridge Avenue at Second Street.
Grief Support Group
FEB. 25 — The Grief Support Group: Rebuilding Hope, sponsored by Ridgeview Medical Center will meet Monday, Feb. 25, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Ridgeview Medical Center. This support group is for those experiencing grief or anticipating a loss of someone they care about. It provides an on-going opportunity to gather helpful information, share experiences, be supported and support others in a similar situation. For more information, call 952-442-2191, Ext. 6190. FEB. 26 — Children ages three through five are invited to attend Winter Morning Stories at the Delano Public Library, 160 Railroad Ave. E., Tuesdays, Feb. 26 through March 19, from 10:30 to 11 a.m. These preschool story times include stories, songs, and rhymes. Story Time Rockford Library
FEB. 27 — The Rockford Public Library will host Story Time for preschoolers on Wednesdays from 11:15 a.m. to noon. Join in for crafts, activities, stories and songs about fairy tales. The focus is “Silly Stories” on Feb. 27.

Advance Care Planning…It’s About the Conversation
FEB. 28 & MARCH 2 — It is important for people to have accurate information in order to make informed decisions about treatments they would or would not want for end-of-life care. Then it is important to talk about one’s wishes with family members who may need to make health care decisions, and to record your wishes in a document. Please join us for an information session that will explain why advance care planning is important and the steps involved. Library’s Dog Day Afternoons
MARCH 7 — Cuddle up and read with Annie, the golden retriever, between 3:30 and 5:30 p.m. Thursday, March 7, at the Delano Public Library, 160 Railroad Ave. E. Annie is a certified Reading Education Assistance Dog. Sign ups are on the same day for 15 minutes of one on one reading time. The library will provide books of all reading levels. Color or do puzzles while you wait. Annie will be on hand the third Thursday of each month after school. Future dates are April 18, May 16, June 20, July 18, Aug. 15, Sept. 19, Oct. 17 and Nov. 21.
