The Maple Grove Lions Club was chartered in 1963 and is a member of Lions International, the largest service organization in the world. It is a group of individuals who works together to help the Maple Grove Community with financial and service aid.
December was a very busy month for the Lions. It started with Breakfast and Lunch with Santa, Salvation Army bell-ringing, and the annual food baskets. The Lions and Maple Grove Firefighters Relief Association joined forces at one of the fire stations to assemble food baskets for those in need in our community and surrounding area. This was our 31st year of putting this together. 150 needy families were treated to a generous supply of food and staples for the Holidays. Rainbow Foods donated the 600 boxes needed and helped out with the food. Malark Logistics donated the use of a truck to transport the food. The Armstrong Hockey Association also helped out with a donation to defray some of the costs.
The second weekend in January brought the annual 5M5 District convention where the 42 clubs of our district meet once a year for some fun, raising money for charities and electing new officers for the coming year.
We are really looking forward to March 5, when the Maple Grove Lions will turn 50 years old. A grand celebration banquet is currently being planned to celebrate 50 years of serving the Maple Grove community.
The Maple Grove Lions has their lively dinner meetings on the first Tuesday of each month and are open to guests interested in checking out the club. The club currently has 69 members ranging in age from mid-20’s through senior citizen. For more information about the Lions or becoming a dinner guest, go to www.maplegrovelions.org.
