Donahue Sports gets Spirit of Lionism Award

DELANO LIONS

The Delano Lions Club presented the Spirit of Lionism Award, to Donahue Sports at the club’s annual awards and governor’s night Thursday, Jan. 24, at B’s on the River.

Each year the Lions choose a non-Lion who has upheld the Spirit of Lionism to receive the award. This year the club decided to recognize Donahue Sports for their most gracious loan of four wheelers for use during the Fourth Of July parade.

The Delano Lions presented this Spirit of Lionism Award to Donahue Sports at their annual awards banquet. The award is given to a non-Lion who exhibits the Spirit of Lionism. Lion Dale Elijah designed the award.

The following awards were presented:

The Lions King award  to Lion Steve Stahlke for his effort with the Christmas tree sales, the Lions Den award to Lion Dick Grinley for his many years as the Lion treasurer, the Lions Heart Award  to Lion Tony Funke for a monetary donation and the Lions Pride award to Lion Bruce Beltrand for his fair treatment of the old stuffy Lions.

Lion Tom Schaffer and his wife Judy were presented with a large framed poster of ex-Twin Jack Morris for their game room in recognition of their hosting of Lions Christmas parties.

Visiting dignitaries at the banquet were District Governor Phil Hanson, First Vice Governor/District Governor Elect Norm Kaltenberg, Second Vice Governor/First Vice Governor elect Terry Wold, Barb Kaltenberg and Shirley Kline.

A free will donation was taken for the benefit of the Leader Dog Program at the request of the District Governor.

Business conducted included a request from the Athletic Club to work in the beer stand on weekends during the three weeks of the State Amateur Tournament to be held in Delano beginning Aug. 18.

Lion treasurer Harlan Lewis was authorized to issue a check to the Relay for Life in an amount of just over $900 which was the amount that was donated by non-participants for food at the Relay for Life last summer.

New members recognized were Matt Schoen, Bruce Beltrand, Steve Heil and Chris Keller.  Dick Grinley was presented a 10-year pin by the District Governor.
