The first-place Buffalo Bison fended off Rogers’ bid for a second straight upset, beating the Royals 68-65 on Friday evening in Buffalo.
Rogers (1-3 conference, 6-12 overall) had handed Big Lake its first conference loss 82-74 on Tuesday and was trying to do the same to Buffalo.
The Bison (4-0 conference, 10-6 overall) prevailed in large part due to their offensive rebounding that earned them several second-chance baskets. The Bison had a 33-23 rebound edge including 14 offensive boards.
Luke Pecka scored 17 for Rogers, including 11-for-11 at the line. Ryan Gelle added 14 points. Sawyer Thompson scored 10 points, all in the second half, helping the Royals rally from a 12-point deficit and take the lead briefly. Cullen Loughlin scored 9 points and Cole Murray 8.
The Royals were to host St. Francis on Tuesday.
