JAN. 8 TO 26 — The Friends of the Delano Public Library is sponsoring its second annual fiber arts exhibit that will take place Jan. 8 – 26 at the library, located at 160 Railroad Ave. E.
JAN. 12 — The Delano High School All Night Graduation Party Committee is sponsoring a chili cook-off, set for 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, at Harley’s Grill and Bar (formerly Big Woods Saloon), 4455 Highway 55, Medina. The contestant fee to enter your chili is $20. Sign up early. Space is limited. Register in person at Harley’s or go to www.HarleysBars.com. Cost to sample and judge chili is $5. Proceeds will benefit the all night senior class party.
Grief Support Group
JAN. 14 — The Grief Support Group: Rebuilding Hope, sponsored by Ridgeview Medical Center will meet Monday, Jan. 14, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Ridgeview Medical Center. This support group is for those experiencing grief or anticipating a loss of someone they care about. It provides an on-going opportunity to gather helpful information, share experiences, be supported and support others in a similar situation. For more information, call 952-442-2191, ext. 6190. General Federated Women’s Club
JAN. 14 — The General Federated Women’s Club of Delano meets from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on the second Monday of the month at the Delano Public Library, 160 Railroad Ave. E. On Jan. 14, Amelia Neaton will talk about Community Supported Agriculture. GFWC invites adult women in the general public to come, get to know club members and find out what GFWC does for the Delano community. The club welcomes new members.
Crow River Food Co-op
JAN. 14 — The Crow River Food Co-op (community owned grocery) will meet Monday, Jan. 14, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the United Presbyterian Church, 6301 Maple St. in Rockford. These monthly meetings are open to the public and for anyone interested in learning more about bringing a cooperative grocer to the area.
Winter Morning Stories
JAN. 15 — Children ages three through five are invited to attend Winter Morning Stories at the Delano Public Library, 160 Railroad Ave. E., Tuesdays, Jan. 15 through March 19, from 10:30 to 11 a.m. These preschool story times include stories, songs, and rhymes. Breast Cancer Support Group
JAN. 15 — The Breast Cancer Support Group will meet Tuesday, Jan. 15, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in Conference Rooms A&B at Ridgeview Medical Center. During each support group session, an educational topic, such as music therapy, plastic surgery or breast cancer statistics will be discussed. This support group provides an opportunity for women to ask questions, share concerns, and offer support to one another in regard to their experiences with breast cancer. Library’s Dog Day Afternoons
JAN. 17 — Cuddle up and read with Annie, the golden retriever, between 3:30 and 5:30 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 17 at the Delano Public Library, 160 Railroad Ave. E. Annie is a certified Reading Education Assistance Dog. Sign ups are on the same day for 15 minutes of one on one reading time. The library will provide books of all reading levels. Color or do puzzles while you wait. Annie will be on hand the third Thursday of each month after school. Slavery and Slave Songs
JAN. 17 — Adults, teens and pre-teens from middle school and older are invited to a program on the “History of Slavery and Slave Songs” at the Delano Middle School Auditorium, 700 Elm Ave. E., Thursday, Jan. 17, from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Singer and educator Grace Carlson will describe how and why slaves were punished and why they sang. Her moving performance gives unique insight into the African American experience. Her appearance is sponsored by the Delano Public Library and funded in part with money from Minnesota’s Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.

Advance Care Planning…It’s About the Conversation
JAN. 17, 26, FEB. 28 & MARCH 2 — It is important for people to have accurate information in order to make informed decisions about treatments they would or would not want for end-of-life care. Then it is important to talk about one’s wishes with family members who may need to make health care decisions, and to record your wishes in a document. Please join us for an information session that will explain why advance care planning is important and the steps involved. ‘Christmas in Norway’ movie night

JAN. 21 — A card marathon for men and women will begin at 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 21, at the Delano Middle School media center, located on Tiger Drive north of Elm Avenue. The General Federated Women’s Club of Delano will host the marathon on the third Monday of every month from October through April, unless otherwise announced. GFWC charges a minimum fee for the marathon, which includes both 500 and cribbage. Last year over 50 people came to play. Refreshments will be served.
