High school teams start new year of action

Delano and Rockford high school teams are back in action to start the new year following the holiday break.

Most teams were competed in holiday tournaments where outcomes were not concluded when this issue went to press.

At Rockford, the boys basketball team is at Holdingford, 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 3, home against Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa, 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 8 and goes against Pierz at St. Cloud State, 7:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 11.

In recent action, the Rockets edged West Lutheran 71-70 when Brock Deering scored 23 points, Nick Tully had 15 and Alex Shaikoski added 10.

Rockford girls basketball is at Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted Jan. 4, home at Norwood-Young America Jan. 7 and home against Eden Valley-Watkins Jan. 10.

The team lost to Maple Lake 57-39 when Sam Bagaason netted 11 points.

Rocket wrestlers are at the Brooklyn Center tournament, starting at 9:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 5 and at Pierz with Eden Valley-Watkins, 5 p.m. Jan. 8.

Gymnastics is home to Little Falls, 6 p.m. Jan. 3, at the Watertown-Mayer Invitational Jan. 5 and home against Princeton, Jan. 8.

The 7-2 Rockford-Delano boys hockey team is home to Holy Catholic Jan. 3, home to Orono Jan. 8 and at Rochester-Lourdes, 2 p.m. Jan. 12.

Girls hockey is at St. Louis Park Jan. 4, at Eden Prairie Jan. 8, at Rogers Jan. 10 and home against Hopkins Jan. 12.

The Bison defeated Chaska/Chanhassen 5-2 when Sam Noetzelman and Katie Rooney both scored twice and Lindsey Hartfiel made 37 saves.

Delano boys basketball has a home non-conference game against Rogers, Friday, Jan. 4. The Tigers play at Mound-Westonka, 6:15 p.m. Jan. 8 and is home to Dassel-Cokato Jan. 11.

Tiger girls basketball is home to Sauk Rapids-Rice, 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, at Mound-Westonka Jan. 8 and at Dassel-Cokato Jan. 11.

Savanah Bettin led with 15 points and Katie Emmer added 11 in Delano’s 62-54 loss to Norwood-Young America. Bria Barfnecht scored 10 points with 10 assists.

Delano wrestlers will enter the Norwood-Young America tournament Jan. 5 and go to Glencoe-Silver Lake Jan. 10 in a meet that includes Orono and Hutchinson.

The Tigers will enter the Becker Invitational Jan. 11.

The Tiger gymnasts are home to Orono Jan. 8 and at Annandale Jan. 11.
