Wrestling: Royals 6th in Maple Grove meet, 8 wrestlers place

The Rogers Royals had eight wrestlers place in the top five as they finished sixth among 12 teams at the Maple Grove Invitational on Saturday.
Ryan Lien took second at 220 with a fall, a double overtime victory in the semis, then a loss to Trae Story of Roseville in the finals. Story is ranked No. 5 at 195 in Class 3A.
Philip Anderson took third at 132 with a 4-1 record and one fall.He lost to eventual champion Dustin Weinmann of Irondale in the semifinals.
Jordan Lemcke took fourth at 195 with a 2-2 mark and one fall.
Kyler Swanson took fourth at 145 going 2-2 with one fall. He injury-defaulted in his third place match.
Fifth-place finishers were Cruz Martinez at 126 (2 pins), Tyler Eicher at 170 (1 pin), Jake Owens at 182 (1 pin), and Peter Oakland at heavyweight (1 pin).
“All but one wrestler we sent placed,” said coach Chris Donnay, adding that all nine wrestlers had at least one in, and the one who didn’t place went 2-2. “We wrestled pretty well today and saw some huge improvements over last weekend.”
Rogers will face Maple Grove and Osseo Thursday in Maple Grove, both section opponents.
