LETTER: Plan for a sober ride home, writer urges

To the Editor:

As the holidays approach, many of us will be celebrating with family and friends, near and far. This is also the most dangerous season of the year. There are more alcohol related driving fatalities and injuries during the holiday season than any other time of the year.

The Minnesota Department of Safety reports that Wright County is ranked ninth amongst Minnesota’s counties with the highest combined totals of drunk driving traffic deaths and alcohol-related serious injuries. You can bet that this holiday season there will be more patrols on the road. Wright County is participating in a nationwide “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” DWI enforcement effort in December. The Minnesota Department of Public Safety (DPS) Office of Traffic Safety coordinates the campaign.

So if you are planning to celebrate with family and friends, keep our roads safe and make sure you have a sober ride planned. If you are in Wright County, the sober cab program is available at many of the local establishments. Sober cab will provide you a free ride home.
