The Rogers Royals Varsity Dance Team kicks off their 2012-13 season earning second place for their kick routine in the Burnsville Invitational Nov. 17.
The Royals Dance Team debuted their upbeat “It’s Burlesque” kick routine with 24 members. This is the largest team the Royals have ever had compete at the varsity level. In varsity high kick, they placed 2nd behind Farmington.
The varsity team also competed their jazz dance titled “Here with me.”
The junior varsity team also competed with “Footloose” for their kick routine and “Drops of Jupiter” by Train for their jazz routine.
Comprised of 37 girls on varsity and junior varsity in grades 7 through 12, the team is led by Captains Kayla Felber and Chelsey Hermann.
The Royals have a new coaching staff this year, Meg Leonard, who held moves up from assistant varsity coach (from 2007-2012). Jessica Grover is assisting Leonard with the varsity team. First year coaches Cassie Mynahan and Jenna Schrapp coach the junior varsity program.
“I was beyond proud of the great performance the girls gave a Burnsville, we have the most difficult routines that we have had since I started coaching the Royals in 2007,” said Leonard. “We have set our high standards right from the get go and the girls come back to us wanting more. I am so excited to work with these girls everyday and see what this season will bring.”
The Rogers Dance Team will compete again Saturday, Dec. 1 at the Chaska Invitational. The first Mississippi 8 Jazz Meet will be held Monday, Dec. 3 at 7 p.m. in Monticello.
