Section swimming

The Champlin Park girls swimming and diving team will be in Coon Rapids this week hoping for a chance to visit Minneapolis the following week.

The Rebels will compete in the Section 7AA preliminaries and finals at Northdale Middle School Nov. 8-10, where qualifying spots for the Nov. 15-17 Class AA girls state swimming and diving meet will be awarded.

Champlin Park will be competing against Anoka, Blaine, Cambridge-Isanti, Coon Rapids, Duluth East, Forest Lake and Andover for the right swim inside the Aquatic Center on the University of Minnesota campus.

Girls hockey underway

The Champlin Park girls hockey team won’t play an actual game until Tuesday, Nov. 13 when the Rebels host North Metro at the Champlin Ice Forum, but the season is undoubtedly underway.

Practice began last week for the girls, and it included a weekend stay in Grand Rapids for a set of scrimmages Nov. 2 and 3.

The team returns to practice this week, and will open its season on that Tuesday vs. North Metro.

The girls will also play seventh-rated Anoka Saturday, Nov. 17.

The Rebels finished last year with an 13-13 overall record. The season ended with a double-overtime loss to Andover in the opening round of the Section 5AA tournament.

Winter season begins

The rest of the winter  sports season begins in earnest in the coming weeks.

Practice for gymnastics, Alpine and Nordic skiing, boys hockey and girls basketball begins Monday, Nov. 12.

Wrestling, boys basketball and adapted floor hockey practice will start Monday, Nov. 19, and the boys swimming and diving season will get started Monday, Nov. 26.
