A Richfield man has died following a canoeing accident on Lake Fort Snelling shortly before 9 a.m. Friday, Oct. 5.
The man, who has yet to be identified by authorities, was one of two men fishing in a canoe on the lake. When the vessel capsized, a Minneapolis man (also yet to be identified) was able to swim to shore. After an emergency call was made, the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office, Minneapolis St. Paul Airport Police and Minneapolis St. Paul Airport Fire Department responded, and rescued the man from the water.
After both men were transported to United Hospital in St. Paul, the Minneapolis man was treated and released. The Richfield man was in critical condition, and died at the hospital Friday evening.
The Hennepin County Sheriff’s Department is conducting an investigation into the incident.
