The Anoka Classic Car Show is gearing up for its grand finale.

The car show will finish this season’s run Sept. 22 with a grand finale show at the Anoka County Fairgrounds from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

This particular show will be open to all cars, rather than the classic designation of 1980 or older that applies to the regular Saturday night shows being hosted in downtown Anoka all summer long.

This gives a whole extra set of car buffs the opportunity to show off their prized possessions. So along with those cool classics, visitors will also get to see some souped up sports cars.

“There are a lot of people out there who are like, ‘hey look at my car’,” said Brad Holmbo, the car show coordinator for Anoka Wrestling. “This gives those other clubs a chance to come out.”

Last year Anoka Wrestling took on the organization and administration of the car show.

“It has been a great way to get our parents involved and the kids out in the community,” said Holmbo. The association includes wrestlers from kindergarten through high school.

Finale features

The grand finale will also feature live music and food vendors along with a beer garden being run by the Anoka Lions.

The cost of admission to show a car at the finale will be $5 with the donation of three non-perishable food items or $10 without.

Those just wishing to wander the grounds and check out all the cool rides will be admitted free.

All proceeds from the finale will go to the ACBC Food Shelf.

Last year, car show organizers were able to donate 1,500 pounds of food along with $1,000 for the food shelf.

The finale also attracted 1,200 cars, a number Holmbo hopes will grow at this year’s event.

Holmbo said the car show has had a strong numbers throughout the summer season. While numbers were down this year as a result of construction in downtown Anoka, said Holmbo, they were still attracting 350 to 400 cars every Saturday night.
