After sailing through the first three games in the Section 5AA softball tournament, Delano lost a double header to end the season at 16-9.

Moving into the double elimination part of the section tourney, the Tigers were stopped cold by Becker, losing 3-0, mustering two hits.

"It was a good game but we had had a hard time getting anything going," says coach Teresa Spurzem. "Becker had a couple key hits and our pitcher walked some batters that hurt us in the end. Offensively, we just couldn’t hit."

Tiger hits were by Sam Noetzelman and Anna Wischmann. Katie Vatnsdal pitched the first five innings, allowing four hits and two earned runs. Makenna Giese worked the last two innings, giving up one hit and one earned run.

Delano next faced Mound-Westonka, a team it defeated in the sub-section finals. Getting back on track offensively with five runs and nine hits, Spurzem said her team fell apart defensively in the second inning, allowing five runs to be scored.

"After that we just couldn’t string anything together until the seventh when we had our chance," adds Spurzem about the 7-5 loss. "We just couldn’t get that big hit with bases loaded."

Noetzelman led the offense going 3 for 3, driving in two runs. Other hits were by Giese, Ashley Lewis, Katie Emmer, Wischmann, Savanah Bettin and Kirsten Palan.

"I really can’t complain about the way the season went," said the first year head coach. "We took second place in a tough conference and first in our sub-section. I had the opportunity to coach a great group of girls."
