For a bit of inspiration sprinkled with laughs, Lyric Arts’ newest romantic comedy might be just what you’re looking for.

The classic film "Heaven Can Wait" springs to life on Main Street Stage opening June 1.

Mishia Edwards, who staged "The Trip to Bountiful" and "The Hallelujah Girls," returns to direct.

"Anyone who likes snappy dialogue, a fascinating story line and body-switching characters will love "Heaven Can Wait," said Edwards in a statement.

The story is about Joe Pendleton, who arrives in the after-life 60 years too early. Unable to return to his own body, Joe is sent back to earth re-embodied in the wealthy, arrogant Jonathan Farnsworth, who is about to be murdered by his wife. As Farnsworth, he gets a second chance at life, love and pursuing dreams.

A Free Page and Stage event will take place June 10. A limited number of participants receive a copy of the script to read before the show. They are then invited to join a pre-show discussion on the script. All guests are invited to stay after the show for a talk-back with cast and crew.

Lyric Arts presents "Heaven Can Wait," June 1-June 16. Tickets are $10-$21. Opening night gala, $18 above ticket price. Lyric Arts is located at 420 E/ Main St., Anoka. For more information, visit www.lyricarts.org or call 763-422-1838.
