Keith Propson, a 17-year-old senior at Rockford High School, recently received Scouting’s highest rank: Eagle Scout. This was celebrated June 24 at a court of honor at Lord of Life Church in Maple Grove.
Keith is a member of Troop 531 in the Northern Star Council. He began as a Tiger Scout, achieving Arrow of Light in Cub Scouts.
During his 7 years as a Boy Scout, Keith served as patrol leader, assistant patrol leader, OA Troop Representative, bugler, historian and scribe.
Keith is an avid camper and attended the 100th National Scout Jamboree in 2010 at Fort A.P Hill in VA. He has also been caving at Medicine Mountain in the Black Hills, Sea Kayaking at the Apostle Islands, and winter camping at Ely, In July of this summer, he will be hiking in the mountains of New Mexico at the Philmont Scout Ranch. Keith logs over 100 nights of camping, and has earned 26 merit badges.
To earn the rank of Eagle Scout, a scout must demonstrate leadership in his troop, complete 21 merit badges and complete an extensive community service project that benefits the community or a charitable organization.
Keith’s project benefited snowmobilers that use the trails in the northwest Hennepin County. He created, along with the Northwest Trails Association that sponsored his project, six trail map stands to provide a better sense of direction for the riders and safe travels between locations.
Keith is the son of Gail and Curt Propson of Corcoran.
