Rockford runners were within seconds of advancing to the state track meet after sending 10 in 14 events to the Section 5A meet last week at St. John’s University.

"Although the team did not advance anyone to the state meet, we had several athletes perform at their best," said coach Joe Peatrowsky. "It was a fun and exciting season."

Jordan Weeding finished 0.1 seconds out of advancing to state by time standard when she placed fourth in the 100-meter hurdles.

Abby Botten was third in the 1600, one place away from state. Zach Johnson placed sixth in the 400, but was just over a second from advancing to state by time.

Jordan O’Reily also came close to advancing to state in the 300 hurdles, falling 1.5 seconds short when he placed fourth.

The boys 4×400 relay of O’Reily, Zach Guthrie, Sasha Galka and Johnson missed going to state by three seconds.

Galka finished fourth in the 800 in what Peatrowsky calls a very tough field. The coach adds how Galka "tied his personal best and has a chance of advancing in the future."

Cally Nielsen ran a personal best time by more than two seconds in the 800. Ninth grader Nick Klonne ran his personal best in the 1600 to finish seventh.
